History

Mr Neil Wintrip originally came up with the idea for the IT learning centre in 1997 and then in May 2005 he became an UnLtd Millennium Award Winner and community champion.

The non-profit enterprise, called A1 Positive Recycling Project, aim to offer IT Hardware computer courses, diagnostic workshops and other IT-based hardware training to anyone over the age of 16.

A1 Positive will also offer free internships to students who wish to gain-practical-work-experience to enhance their qualifications.

A1 also acts as a computer recycling centre, breaking down working machines and using the parts to build new ones.

Mr Wintrip said: "I want computers and computing to be more accessible, because having basic IT hardware skills can improve people's prospects hugely from the ground up.

"A1 will offer a new kind of training, where people will be able to gain practical training experience and vital-work-experience while learning, making them more experienced than the average school leaver."

Mr Wintrip also believes that this project offers a practical-solution to problems that may arise from a recently introduced European Parliament directive which means electrical or electronic waste can not legally go to landfill.

He said: "The aim is to collect unwanted working computer equipment, so that it can be re-used to teach and help people who sign up for a 12 month programme in PC training programme."

Call A1 Positive on: (01392) 20 27 79 or call 07849-462499.
