Outdoor Activities and Skills Courses in the Lake District

Intro
The Glaramara Centre, located at the head of the beautiful Borrowdale valley in the heart of the Lake District, offers a multi-purpose venue for holidays, outdoor activities, team development, skills courses and function hire.

All welcome
Individuals and families, as well as groups, are very welcome at Glaramara with no minimum period of stay. You are not obliged to book activities or skills courses although we do feel you are missing out, if you don’t! The Centre is available for groups whether it be for to conduct meetings, conferencing, workshops, field studies or purely for social purposes. We are a fine location for your lake district wedding.

Accommodation/Food & Drink
The Centre sleeps up to 60 people in comfortable twin and single rooms. Situated in 5 acres of superb grounds, the Centre has lovely panoramic views of the valley including our own mountain: ‘Glaramara’. The outside terrace made out of traditional Borrowdale slate is an added feature especially in summer months. There is car parking for up to 40 vehicles. The Centre has recently been refurbished and modernised with natural log fires adding warmth and atmosphere in the autumn and winter months. There is a licensed residents’ bar. Our award winning chef and his team produce healthy, locally sourced and high quality meals with a touch of style. We are happy to talk to residents about their specific catering and dietary requirements. Our full board package includes dinner, bed and breakfast and a lunch option.

You need not be staying with us to enjoy our activities which are designed for all age ranges and abilities: for individuals, groups or families. Our newly constructed Activities Store and Day Centre means that we have a modern purpose built venue for conducting our activity programmes. You will be coached and encouraged by our team of highly qualified and experienced instructors. Examples of our activities are:

We offer ideal opportunities for young people, whether as part of a school, college or youth group, to come into close contact with the outdoors, participate in adventurous and exciting activities, gain an appreciation for the environment, develop socially, intellectually and physically as well as make new friends. Most aspects of our courses have clear links to areas of the National Curriculum The Centre, its activities are fully licensed in line with the extensive criteria laid down by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority. Special rates may be available for groups which include those under 18 years of age with free adult/staff places.

Skills courses
These are suitable for individuals or small groups and include Hill Walking, Mountain Biking, Navigation, NGB Awards, Scrambling, Rock Climbing and Winter Courses. If you are interested in trying something for the first time, refreshing forgotten skills or honing your technique, please contact us.
